ABSTRAKSI: Global Positioning System (GPS) mampu memberikan informasi berdasarkan latitude, longitude, dan altitude secara terus menerus ke berbagai tempat di seluruh permukaan bumi. User membutuhkan GPS receiver untuk dapat menerima informasi lokasi. Namun jika handphone diintegrasikan dengan GPS, maka perkembangan sistem ini akan dibatasi oleh teknologi yang dimiliki oleh handphone karena harga dari handphone akan menjadi lebih mahal.
Karena mempertimbangkan dari sisi konsumen, maka dibutuhkan suatu aplikasi yang nantinya dapat dipakai oleh sebagian besar pengguna handphone. Untuk itu diperlukan metode akurat lain untuk mengetahui lokasi handphone. Dengan menggunakan metode Enhanced Observed Time Difference (E-OTD) maka dapat diketahui lokasi user dengan memanfaatkan jaringan selluler yang telah ada dengan dasar pemikiran membandingkan sinyal yang datang ke handphone yang berasal dari BTS (Base Trnsceiver Station) serving dan BTS neighbor.
Dalam proyek akhir ini akan dibuat sebuah aplikasi yang digunakan untuk mengetahui lokasi handphone. Aplikasi E-OTD ini sangat bergantung dengan kondisi jaringan yang ada. Aplikasi ini akan sangat baik diterapkan jika kondisi jaringan di Indonesia telah mendukung. Akan ada banyak pengembangan dari aplikasi E-OTD ini di masa yang akan datang. Misalnya dalam penerapan aplikasi Location Base Service (LBS).Kata Kunci : Global Positioning System (GPS), latitude, longitude, altitude, receiver,ABSTRACT: Global Positioning System (GPS) can give infromation about latitude, longitude and altitude continously to every place in the world. User needs a GPS receiver to get the position. But if we combine between mobile phone with GPS the technology development will be delayed because the increase of cost.
Considering the consumen side, application that can be used by most of mobile phone user will be neccessary. Another accurate method for getting position of mobile phone needed. With Enhanced Observed Time Difference (E-OTD), user position can be known by using the cellular network that already exist comparing the signals that come from serving BTS and Neighbor BTS.
This final project will make an application for getting about mobile phone position. This E-OTD application accuracy very depended on performance of the network. The performance of this method will be very reliable if supported by network performance in Indonesia. In the future, there will be many application developed from this E-OTD method.
