ABSTRAKSI: Industri perabot ukiran kayu merupakan hal yang sangat penting bagi kota Jepara sebagai senjata untuk terus meningkatkan kondisi perekonomian daerah. Agar nama baik industrinya tetap terjaga, dan mengingat jumlah ahli kayu yang sangat terbatas, maka perlu dikembangkan suatu cara deteksi jenis kayu untuk mengurangi dan mengantisipasi kasus penipuan yang dapat mencemarkan nama baik ukiran Jepara. Hal ini dimaksudkan supaya tidak berdampak pada kehidupan ekonomi penduduk Jepara yang mayoritas berprofesi di bidang industri perabot ukiran kayu.
Dalam Tugas Akhir ini menggunakan metode Jaringan Syaraf Tiruan Backpropagation untuk pengenalan pola image kayu. Sebelumnya citra latih dan citra uji dicropping, diambil vektor-vektor cirinya menggunakan metode ekstraksi ciri statistik orde pertama dan orde kedua serta filter gabor, kemudian vektor ciri citra latih digunakan sebagai input pada training JST bacpropagation. Hasil training selanjutnya diuji dengan vektor ciri citra uji untuk mendapatkan akurasinya.
Ekstraksi ciri yang mampu menghasilkan akurasi di atas 80 % adalah ekstraksi ciri orde pertama (entropy dan kurtosis) serta ekstraksi ciri orde kedua (correlation, invers different moment, entropy, angular second moment) dari citra grayscale, citra red, citra green, citra blue, yang semua citranya tidak dinormalisasi. Sedangkan dalam pemecahan suatu kasus menggunakan metode JST Backpropagation, nilai parameter MSE, parameter jumlah neuron pada tiap hidden layer, dan parameter learning rate tidaklah bisa diperkirakan sebelumnya. Untuk mendapatkan hasil yang terbaik adalah dengan cara coba-coba atau trial and error.

Keeping a good reputation of their product industry and increasing amount of limited wood specialist are important to develop the way to detection kinds of wood to decrease and to anticipate the deceive of wood cases which can stain or decrease a good reputation of Jepara’s wood furniture industry. It is purposed in order to avoid bad impact in Jepara economic condition of wood furniture industry.
In this final assignment, this research use Artificial Neural Network (ANN) Method, Backpropagation as an introduction the wood’s pattern image. Previously, training image and testing image are cropped and taken the vector’s characteristics using feature extraction of statistic method on the first moment and second moment and also gabor filter. Then, characteristics vector of training image is used as an input on the training ANN Method, backpropagation. Afterwards, the training result is tested by the characteristics vector of testing image to get the accuracy.
Feature extraction which be able to proceeds the accuracy above 80% are the feature extraction on first moment (entropy, and kurtosis) and the feature extraction on second moment (correlation, invers different moment, entropy, angular second moment) from grayscale, red image, green image, blue image, which all the image are not being normalize. Besides that, in solving a case using ANN Method, backpropagation, Mean Square Error (MSE) parameter’s value, amount of neuron parameter in every hidden layer and learning rate parameter is unable to be predicted previously. To get the best result is using Trial and Error.
