ABSTRAKSI: PT Telkom, Tbk sebagai penyedia jaringan saat ini sedang melakukan proyek FO-nisasi PT Telkom : TT.10. No : 01 / DINTEK / 30/ 2002 dengan tujuan regenerasi jaringan HDSL menjadi jaringan optik. Hal ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan performansi layanan dan juga mengurangi gangguan yang ditimbulkan oleh pemakaian jaringan tembaga. Bandung Centrum merupakan kawasan strategis untuk dilakukan penggelaran jaringan optik akses, karena didaerah ini terdapat banyak pelanggan yang menggunakan bandwidth yang besar. Selain itu Bandung Centrum sejak tahun 2006 silam telah memiliki perangkat transmisi GPON namum belum dimaksimalkan penggunaannya.
GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) merupakan salah satu teknologi jaringan akses optik. Teknologi ini memiliki keunggulan diantaranya sudah mendukung aplikasi triple play, menghemat penggunaan serat optik, memiliki proteksi yang handal, dan juga memiliki bitrate hingga orde gigabit. Teknologi ini sangat cocok diterapkan pada kawasan bandung centrum mengingat kawasan ini memiliki wilayah yang tidak terlalu luas (diameter area tidak sampai 10 Km).
Uji kelayakan link power budget dan rise time budget menunjukan bahwa perancangan telah memenuhi untuk kedua standar tersebut. Redaman terbesar pada perancangan tersebut terdapat pada pelanggan yang berada di jalan RE Martadinata. Total redaman yang dihasilkan pada link tersebut sebesar 19,53 dB, redaman ini masih berada di bawah standar GPON sesuai ITU-T G.984 sebesar 28 dB maupun standar yang dikeluarkan pihak Telkom sebesar 26 dB. Hasil uji rise time budget pun menghasilkan angka yang masih berada dalam toleransi perancangan jaringan GPON. Untuk arah downlink dengan bitrate sebesar 2,48 Gbps, pelanggan terjauh menghasilkan Ttotal sebesar 0,2612 ns. Ttotal masih berada dibawah nilai Tsistem sebesar 0,28 dB.
