ABSTRAKSI:
Podcasting merupakan suatu metode yang digunakan untuk mendistribusikan file-file multimedia melalui jaringan internet, yang selanjutnya dapat diputar kembali melalui PC, hand phone, maupun portable music player. Secara global podcasting dapat dimodelkan sebagai push technology, dimana multimedia content ditawarkan dalam bentuk feed dan subscriber dapat memilih feed channel yang diinginkannnya. Dalam aplikasinya, podcast menyediakan fasilitas streaming multimedia content maupun download secara otomatis bagi user yang membutuhkan.
Pada awalnya, kegiatan perkuliahan dilakukan secara manual. Kendala yang sering ditemui pada sistem perkuliahan ini antara lain jika salah satu pihak, baik dosen maupun mahasiswa berhalangan hadir atau pun terlambat datang, maka akan berakibat pada berkurangnya waktu perkulihan efektif. Berangkat dari ketidakefektifan waktu tersebut maka dibuatlah sistem penyediaan bahan perkuliahan berbasis web. Namun metode ini juga memiliki kelemahan, yaitu user (mahasiswa) tidak tahu secara pasti kapan dosen meng-update file perkuliahan. Untuk mengatasi kelemahan sistem perkuliahan berbasis web, maka diterapkan teknologi podcast. yang berbasis RSS (Really Simple Syndication). Dengan teknologi ini user dapat mengetahui dengan cepat (realtime) dan secara otomatis melakukan download file saat dosen melakukan update file mata kuliah.
Implementasi sistem penyediaan bahan perkuliahan berbasis podcast ini menggunakan web server Apache 2.0.55, PHP 5.0.5, dan database MySQL 5.0.15. Diharapkan dengan penggunaan sistem ini dapat mengoptimumkan kegiatan perkuliahan sekaligus meningkatkan kualitas pengajaran.
Keunggulan sistem perkuliahan berbasis podcast adalah mahasiswa dapat langsung mengetahui keberadaan file baru saat dosen melakukan pengupdatean di sisi server. Sebagai pelengkap, pada sistem podcast ini disediakan pula content audio. Dalam hal ini audio yang dipergunakan adalah file audio perkuliahan berformat .mp3 dengan bitrate 20 kbps dan sample rate 11.025 Hz, yang merupakan ukuran yang optimum, yang diperoleh dari hasil MOS.

So far, university lectures activities being held manually. In this system, if lecturer or student was hindered to attend class, it will cost on time inefficiency. From this problem, a web-based system of providing lecture materials was made. Despite of resolving the problem, web-based system has another problem regarding there is no alert when updated files are available. To handle this weak point, podcast technology based on RSS (Really Simple Syndication) can be used. Using this technology, user will find out fast (realtime) and could automatically download when lecturer updates the files.
The implementation of this lecturing material provider system with a podcast basis is using an Apache web server 2.0.55, PHP 5.0.5, and MySQL 5.0.15 database. Later expected with the implementation of this system can optimized the lecturing activity and improve the studying quality.
The excellence of lecturing material provider system with a podcast basis is student could find out updated file right after lecturer updating files on server. As a supplement, in this final assignment system provide audio contents. Here, it will use audio file in mp3 format with 20 kbps bit rate and 11.025 Hz sample rate, which is the optimum size from MOS result.
