ABSTRAKSI: PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk merupakan salah satu perusahaan telekomunikasi terbesar di Indonesia, sejak tahun 2002 telah memasarkan layanan pengiriman pesan singkat yang biasa disebut SMS (Short Message Service). Produk yang pertama kali dipasarkan adalah pengiriman pesan singkat dari fixed telephone atau yang biasa disebut PSTN dengan brand name TSMS (Telkom SMS), kemudian setelah itu dikeluarkan produk baru berbasis CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) yang kini lebih dikenal dengan Telkom Flexi.
SMS menjadi salah satu layanan favorit di kalangan pengguna teknologi selular saat ini, khususnya di Indonesia. Hal ini dikarenakan harganya yang ekonomis dan kemampuan pesan yang dapat disimpan dalam jangka waktu lama. Namun, ada sedikit kendala dalam pengiriman SMS, standard yang dimiliki CDMA berbeda dengan standard yang sudah eksis yang dimiliki GSM saat ini. CDMA menggunakan protokol IS-41 sedangkan GSM menggunakan MAP. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut maka dibutuhkan converter yang berfungsi untuk menjembatani komunikasi antara perangkat CDMA dengan perangkat GSM, yaitu Gateway SMS. Gateway SMS yang kemudian lebih dikenal dengan sebutan GSMSC (Gateway SMS Center) dan SMPP (Short Message Peer-to-Peer) Protocol Gateway, yang berfungsi mengubah format SMS dari standard protokol IS-41 yang dibawa oleh SMS dari Flexi ke dalam format SMPP dan kemudian menjadi format MAP agar dapat berkomunikasi dengan operator lain.
Dalam Tugas Akhir ini akan dibahas khusus tentang server GSMSC Telkomsel yang menjembatani antara Telkom dengan Telkomsel, baik layanan SMS Telkom Flexi maupun Telkom SMS. Hal ini dilakukan karena pengiriman SMS ke arah Telkomsel mempunyai kepadatan trafik yang tinggi. Sehingga dibutuhkan perlakuan khusus untuk menjaga agar performansi pengiriman SMS berjalan sesuai dengan standard yang telah ditetapkan.Kata Kunci : ABSTRACT: PT. Since 2002, the company has provided a service in short message delivery, which is commonly known as Short Message Service (SMS). The company first product was a short message delivery using fixed telephone (PSTN) in a brand name of TSMS (Telkom SMS). And after that, the company launch ed a new product in CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) base, which is known as Telkom Flexi.
SMS technology has become a favorite service used by cellular phone user. Either because the cost of SMS cheap, this service also able to store message in long period. But, there is a small obstacle in the message delivery; the standard of CDMA is different from the exist standard of GSM. CDMA use IS-41 protocol; meanwhile GSM uses MAP. To handle this, a converter is needed to act as bridge between CDMA and GSM. The converter is SMS Gateway, which is well known as GSMSC (Gateway SMS Center) and SMPP (Short Message Peer-to-Peer) Protocol, which function is to change the format in CDMA standard into format of GSM Standard.
This Final Paper discuss about Telkomsel GSMSC Service connecting Telkom and Telkomsel. It is because the traffic of message sent to Telkomsel is very high. This will need special treatment to keep the message sending performance in line with the standard.Keyword:
