ABSTRAKSI: Internet telah menjadi bagian dari kehidupan sehari-hari sebagai salah satu wahana komunikasi dalam bisnis maupun untuk pribadi. Namun ternyata internet tidak terlalu aman karena merupakan media komunikasi umum yang dapat digunakan oleh siapapun sehingga sangat rawan terhadap penyadapan informasi oleh pihak-pihak yang tidak berhak mengetahui informasi tersebut. Salah satu cara yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan jaminan keamanan informasi rahasia ini adalah dengan menyandikan isi informasi menjadi suatu kode-kode yang tidak dimengerti sehingga apabila disadap maka akan kesulitan untuk mengetahui isi informasi yang sebenarnya.
Pada tugas akhir ini dilakukan analisa terhadap performa algoritma kriptografi ElGamal yang diimplementasikan di sistem operasi yang berbeda, yaitu Windows XP dan Ubuntu dengan melihat waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk proses enkripsi dan proses dekripsi, serta ukuran file setelah proses enkripsi.
Pada uji coba yang dilakukan ternyata waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk proses pembentukan kunci, proses enkripsi, dan proses dekripsi lebih cepat jika diimplementasikan di Windows XP dibandingkan diimplementasikan di Ubuntu.

ABSTRACT: Internet have become to the part of everyday life as one of communications means in business and also for person. But in the reality internet not too peaceful because representing public communications media able to be used by whoever so that very gristle to information tapping by sides which have no business know the information. One of the way of used to get this secret information security guarantee is by encoding information content become a codes which do not understand so that if tapped hence difficulty will to know information content which in fact.
In this final duty will analyse the performa of algorithm of kriptografi Elgamal which is implementation in different operating system, that is Windows XP and Ubuntu seen time required for the process of enkription and process of dekription, and also file size measure after process of enkription.
The test-drive in the reality time required for the process of forming the key, encryption process, and decryption process quicker if implementation in Windows XP compared to implementation in Ubuntu.
