ABSTRAKSI: Mashup menjadi tren yang menarik sebagai sebuah teknologi web application. Wikipedia menyebutnya web application hybrid, merupakan sebuah aplikasi web yang menggabungkan data dari berbagai sumber yang berbeda yang gratis, komersial atau melalui perjanjian rekanan dan menyajikannya sebagai sebuah service baru yang berbeda. Mashup pembangunannya dikatakan mudah dan cepat dengan memanfaatkan API (Application Programming Interface) dan mendapatkan konten yang tersedia melalui web feeds (RSS, Atom).
Aplikasi mashup adalah sebuah web mashup yang menyedikan sebuah set fungsi atau fitur lengkap untuk user, maksudnya adalah aplikasi mashup berperan sebagai suatu keseluruhan Sebagai contoh , sebuah mashup dapat mengambil data dari Picasa atau Flickr, sentra penyimpanan foto online dan application sharing serta melakukan mash-up dengan Google Maps, aplikasi mapping online dengan hasil menampilkan gambar di area geografis tertentu. Dengan demikian, Flickr mamupun Google Maps mampu menyediakan fitur tersebut. Fungsionalitas ini dimungkinkan dengan teknik mengkombinasikan kedua API. Bagian terbaik dari mashup adalah mampu untuk mensinergikan secara kreatif beberapa API dari source yang berbeda.
Banyak cara dalam membangun aplikasi mashup, yang akan dikembangkan disini adalah menggunakan framework Ruby on Rails.

The term Mashup implies easy, fast integration, frequently done by access to open APIs and data sources to produce results that were not the original goal of the data owners.
A mashup application is a web mashup that provides a complete set of functions for the user. This means a mashup application is the entire purpose of the system. For example, a mashup might take data from Flickr, the photo storage and sharing application and mash it up with Google Maps, the online mapping application to display photos that come from a particular geographical area. By themselves, neither Flickr nor Google Maps are able to provide these features. However, this mashup's functionalities only come from combining both APIs; the web application cannot exist without the APIs. The functionality of the mashup is a synergistic product of creative usage of APIs from both sources.
All this translates into a highly productive development framework in which web applications can be developed, deployed, and maintained easily. This framework, coupled with the fact that it uses Ruby, makes it an excellent platform for developing web mashups.Keyword: Mashup, API, RSS
