ABSTRAKSI: Data list nomor kontak pada phone book sangat penting dan tersimpan pada device perangkat SIM Card atau memori HP dengan kapasitas penyimpanan yang terbatas. Permasalahan yang kemudian terjadi adalah, jika kedua perangkat ini rusak atau hilang maka data phone book yang tersimpan di dalamnya pun juga akan ikut hilang. Metode back up yang telah ada seperti V-Card, kabel data, bluetooth, dan infra red masih kurang handal dari segi mobilitas dan efisiensi biaya.
Untuk menangani permasalahan itu dan kekurangan yang dimiliki oleh metode-metode yang telah ada, ditawarkan sebuah solusi back up data phone book ke server/operator, dimana data nomor kontak pada phone book dikompresi terlebih dahulu di HP client menggunakan aplikasi BUPBClient, lalu dikirim ke server via SMS untuk kemudian disimpan di database server. Client sewaktu-waktu dapat mengambil kembali datanya ini jika diperlukan melalui permintaan ke server via SMS. Untuk bisa melakukan hal ini, client harus registrasi ke server dengan tag format yang ditentukan (dan server akan menggenerate ID untuk client). Diperlukan juga penanganan terhadap tag format yang salah, proses permintaan kirim file dan ambil file oleh client, serta penanganan terhadap proses kirim file ke server dan ambil file ke server. Untuk itu, didesain dan diimplementasikan juga protokol sederhana BUPB (Back Up Phone Book) yang mengatur format SMS yang dikirimkan oleh client. Pada Tugas Akhir ini dikemukakan hipotesa bahwa metode back up dengan BUPBClient ini akan mengurangi jumlah SMS yang dikirimkan dibandingkan dengan metode V-Card via SMS, namun memperlama waktu pemrosesan karena proses kompresi yang dilakukannya.
Dari hasil pengujian untuk aplikasi BUPBClient dengan cara membandingkan output dari jumlah SMS yang dihasilkan untuk proses back up sejumlah kontak (sesuai skenario yang disusun) menggunakan aplikasi BUPBClient dengan V-Card via SMS serta perbandingan jumlah waktu yang diperlukan oleh BUPBClient untuk melakukan proses kompresi terhadap sejumlah kontak dibandingkan dengan jumlah waktu yang diperlukan oleh V-Card untuk mengubah kontak yang akan dikirimkan menjadi format V-Card, diperoleh hasil yang membuktikan kebenaran hipotesa tersebut. Di dalam Tugas Akhir ini dianalisa juga protokol BUPB yang didesain dan diimplementasikan serta proses bisnis di dalamnya.

Then the problem is if both of this peripheral damage or lose then phone book data will be lose too. The existed of back up phone book methods like V-Card, Data Cable, Bluetooth, and Infra Red, less reliable at mobility and cost efficiency.
To solve this problem and less reliable at existed methods, trying to offer a solution to back up contacts to a server (operator), in which contacts first must be compressed in the HP (of client), then send them to server using SMS. In server, it will store in database. Client can take their file if they need it. To do that, first of all, client must registrate to server (and server will generate ID for client). It also need handling for wrong format tag of client’s SMS, send file request process, get file request process, and also handling for sending and receiving file from client process. For that, designed and implemented too a protocol, call BUPB(Back Up Phone Book) protocol, that arrange format of SMS’s client. In this Final Project, it tell a hipotesa that back up phone book method using BUPBClient is reduce sum up of the SMS that spent but it need more time because of compressed process than using V-Card method.
By the result of experiment for BUPBClient application by compared the output of sum up SMS that spend than V-Card method and also the time that use by BUPBClient for compress some contact and the time for it than V-Card (change contact to be V-card method before send it), it get result that proff the hipotesa.
