ABSTRAKSI: Perkembangan informasi yang sangat pesat mengakibatkan berubahnya kebutuhan untuk hanya sekedar mendapatkan informasi meningkat menjadi kebutuhan untuk mendapatkan informasi yang tepat sesuai dengan kebutuhan kita. Sistem Information Retrieval (IR) merupakan solusi pemecahan masalah tersebut. Komponen penting dalam sistem IR adalah indexing. Dengan melakukan indexing, sistem IR dapat melakukan pencarian dokumen secara lebih cepat.
Salah satu teknik indexing adalah dengan menggunakan Rhetorical Structure Theory. RST indexing menggunakan metode dynamic initial weight assignment. Berbeda dengan teknik indexing lainnya, RST indexing dapat merubah pembobotan awalnya secara dinamis sehingga didapatkan kinerja sistem Information Retrieval yang lebih baik secara precision dan recall dibanding dengan indexing tanpa pemberian bobot awal.

Information Retrieval system is the solution to get the right information that we only needed. Indexing is the very important component of Information Retrieval System. By doing indexing, the Information Retrieval System search the document faster.
One of the indexing technique is using Rhetorical Structure Theory (RST). RST indexing use the dynamic initial weight assignment. Differ with other indexing technique, RST indexing can change the initial weight dynamically which can make Information Retrival System performances better according to precision and recall compared to indexing without initial weight assignment.
