There are several effects of improper waste management that leads to the contamination of our environment; that includes land, water, and air pollution. This can further help the growth and spread of diseases as waste spaces can be a breeding space for disease-spreading animals like rats, cockroaches, mosquitoes, etc. Big cities like Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya are the largest contributors of waste; producing waste in the form of plastics, food packaging, organic waste, and more. Indonesia is also the 2nd largest contributor of waste in the world producing up to 14.96 million tons per year, out of which 6.8 million tons are not properly processed. This is due to the low awareness of the Indonesian citizens as well as the weak environmental regulations by the government. The habit of littering of adults can be passed onto their children, which is why it is important for children to recognize the importance of waste management from an early age as it can develop character for environmental care, discipline, and respect to the environment. This subject was intended to educate and increase the awareness of the effects of improper waste disposal and impose the habit of cleanliness in children through visual media that can help teachers and parents in educating their children. This research will use qualitative and quantitative data such as literature study, interview, observation, and questionnaire as well as the matrix approach that aims to create an illustration book design and supporting visual prompts that can better help in educating young children on waste management, as well as a supporting media in the formation of children’s character.
