I assumed that musical identity of woman singer is formed through the variety of musical experiences from her social life. The poststructuralist feminist perspective is used to focus on the historical and cultural background of the woman’s experiences in her life. Two research questions refer to: 1) the construction of woman singer’s musical identity so that she can reconstruct her subjectivity, and 2) the intention of woman singer to use her musical identity as a ‘tool’ to reconstruct her subjectivity in Indonesia popular music. The life history method is used to understand all the subjective experiences of woman singer based on her perspective. The findings are: 1) the construction of woman singer’s musical identity is formed through the cultural knowledge that she got in her social life, and 2) the subjectivity reconstruction that based on musical identity of woman singer is related to her intention, i.e. to ‘struggle’ a music genre that not get enough appreciation from the music industry and most of Indonesian peoples.
