The development of the Latin alphabet fonts in particular , has been very rapid , supported by acceleration -based technology both online and offline . But very few can as identity , especially identity derived from visual culture in Indonesian . This is due to the lack of a reference standard that can be used as a reference of making new Latin alphabet that is based on the visual culture of the area . The condition raises the question , can a form of visual literacy area represented the area in addition to the system alphabet ? Is there a visual representation of a model that can generate alphabet system ?
To create a new Latin -based letters of visual culture , we need a method related to the creation of new Latin letters . Approach to visual language , and semiotics of typography in the design of Latin letters . Semiotic approach to typography is revealed how visual form that can be applied as a tool for creating new designs include Latin letters as an effort to maintain the meaning of the content contained in the referenced visual reference letters development, while the study of the visual representation of an object breaking visual expression based on the structure -forming visual including patterns of lines and geometric elements contained in the object reference that can be applied as a form of representation in the anatomy of letters . Indonesia has various forms of visual expression that can be used in the process of creating ideas that contain Latin letters regionalism . One is the Asmat . Asmat tribe known in his life as one with a strong ethnic carve activities . Asmat carvings are widely applied in nearly all visual elements . Characteristics Asmat carving style is divided into 4 sections , namely Style Carved Central Asmat , Centra Northwest Asmat Style , Asmat Citak Style and Brazza River Style . The end result of this research is the design of the Latin alphabet character set based on the idea of the visual style of the Asmat carving .
