Social Media have been gaining in popularity worldwide and the introduction of social media in companies bring forth many opportunity and challenges. It is a new method of communication among colleagues and with customers to enable engagement. Although social media seems important but there is very limited understanding on the influence of social media for work purposes or during work in Malaysia. In this research, this study would like to investigate employee’s usage of social media during work, what benefits it increase, and how its usage influence their performance. This study is a conceptual paper that theoretically examine the positive relationship between social media usage and work performance via mediating variables of utilitarian, hedonic and Least effort.
