ABSTRAKSI: Protokol VNC adalah sebuah protokol sederhana yang digunakan untuk melakukan remote access terhadap tampilan grafis dari sebuah komputer. Remote access terhadap tampilan grafis dari sebuah komputer ini sering disebut juga dengan istilah remote desktop. Remote desktop dapat dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan kemampuan yang dimiliki oleh aplikasi remote dektop client. Dalam VNC aplikasi remote dektop client ini dikenal dengan sebutan VNC Viewer. VNC Viewer tidak berjalan sendiri, untuk menjalankannya diperlukan sebuah aplikasi lagi yang dikenal dengan VNC server. Aplikasi VNC server ini harus diinstalasikan terlebih dahulu pada sebuah komputer yang akan di-remote.<br> Berbagai macam aplikasi remote desktop telah tersedia saat ini. Hanya saja kesemua aplikasi remote desktop tersebut diperuntukan bagi komputer desktop atau laptop saja. Padahal saat ini telah lahir sebuah perangkat elektronik berukuran kecil seperti Pocket PC yang memiliki kemampuan tidak jauh berbeda dengan kemampuan sebuah komputer desktop.<br> Pembuatan aplikasi VNC client untuk sebuah kompuer desktop mungkin tidak begitu susah dan tidak akan menemui banyak kendala karena komputer desktop sendiri memiliki resource yang cukup besar. Berbeda dengan pembuatan aplikasi VNC client untuk perangkat mobile seperti Pocket PC, sepertinya akan banyak menemukan kendala karena pada Pocket PC memiliki banyak keterbatasan resource seperti keterbatasan kemampuan prosesor, keterbatasan ukuran layar, keterbatasan media input dan lain-lain.Kata Kunci : VNC, Remote Access, Remote Desktop, VNC Viewer, VNC Server,ABSTRACT: VNC protocol is a simple protocol used to access remotely graphic appearance of a computer. Remote access to graphic appearance of a computer is also called remote desktop. This remote desktop is able to run with using remote desktop client application ability. In VNC, this remote desktop application is called VNC Viewer. VNC Viewer is not a self-supporting aplication, it needed another application which called VNC server. This VNC server application need to be installed in the computer that will be remoted.<br> There are various remote desktop application that is available now. But, all of those application addressed to desktop computer or laptop. Whereas in this moment there is a mini electronic gadget like Pocket PC which its ability quite equal to desktop computer.<br> The construction of a VNC client application in a desktop computer maybe not too difficult and won’t have many trouble because desktop computer have enough of resources. But in mobile device like Pocket PC, the construction of a VNC client application seems have many trouble because of resources limitedness e.g. processor capability, size of its screen, limitedness of input media, etc.Keyword: VNC, Remote Access, Remote Desktop, VNC Viewer, VNC Server,
