ABSTRAKSI: Secara umum, seluler dunia memang terbagi dalam dua kubu yang tersekat, yaitu Eropa (utara) dan Amerika. Di Indonesia, kompetisi dua kubu ini sungguh luar biasa, seperti partai hidup dan mati. Ketika Telkom melansir layanan CDMA 2000-1X, semua operator GSM berteriak. Mereka khawatir, pelanggan yang tidak memerlukan roaming, karena rendah mobilitasnya, akan berpindah ke CDMA yang tarifnya lebih murah.<br>Untuk menjembatani GSM dan CDMA adalah dengan melakukan konvergensi antara operator GSM dan CDMA atau cukup oleh operator GSM saja dengan sedikit penambahan komponen akses CDMA. Konvergensi yang terjadi dilakukan dengan penggabungan jaringan CDMA dan jaringan GSM dengan sebuah media yang berfungsi untuk mengonversikan protokol dari masing-masing jaringan, sehingga keseluruhan jaringan tersebut disebut GSM1x.<br>Sebenarnya GSM1x adalah suatu solusi bagi operator GSM untuk loncat menuju operator selular generasi ketiga (3G). GSM1x merupakan teknologi dengan pemanfaatan jaringan GSM sebagai jaringan utamanya dan penggunaan BTS (base transceiver station) CDMA 2000-1X sebagai antarmuka ke ponsel pelanggan. GSM1x akan menggabungkan kelebihan GSM yang cukup handal dalam aplikasi-aplikasinya dan kelebihan CDMA yang memiliki kapasitas lebih besar dan efisien dalam operasi frekuensinya. Opsi ini memiliki keuntungan lebih baik dari segi time-to-market maupun dari segi biaya investasi, dimana biaya modal dan operasi penerapan teknologi GSM1x untuk periode 4 tahun lebih rendah $9,398,921,220 dibanding teknologi GSM. Di samping itu NPV pada GSM1x yang paling besar dibanding 2 skenario yang lain, yaitu sebesar -$2,327,847,647.Kata Kunci : ABSTRACT: Generally, seluler around the world is divided into two citadel which is partitioned off, that is Europe ( north) and American. In Indonesia, competition of two citadel is really excrutiatingly. When Telkom launched CDMA 2000-1X service, all GSM operator screamed. They are all worry about the subscribers which needn’t roaming will move to CDMA which has the cheaper tarrifs than GSM, since low of their mobility.<br>For bridging GSM and CDMA, convergence between GSM and CDMA operator may happen or enough by only GSM operator meagrely the component addition access CDMA. Convergence is conducted by affiliating CDMA and GSM network with a media which has function for converting protocol from each network, so we call the network entirely as a GSM1x.<br>Actually, GSM1x is a solution for GSM operator to hop thru the third generation (3G) of cellular operator. GSM1x represent technology with exploiting of GSM network as the core network and using CDMA2000 1x BTS ( Base of Transceiver Station) as an interface to client handset (subscriber). GSM1x will join GSM excess which enough rely on its applications and CDMA excess that more efficient and bigger capacities in its operation frequency. This option seen to be have better advantage from time-to-market side and also from facet of invesment expense, which has capital expenditures and operation expenses for 4 years period $9,398,921,220 less than GSM. Besides, NPV of GSM1x is the biggest than the other 2 scenarios, that is -$2,327,847,647.Keyword:
